What is cryolipolysis?
Cryolipolysis is the break down fat cells using cold temperatures. Unlike other cells, The fat cells are
particularly susceptible to the effects of cold. While the fat cells freeze, the skin and other structures are spared
from injury. Cryolipolysis is one of the most popular nonsurgical fat reduction treatments, with over 450,000
procedures performed worldwide.
Why choose cryoliplysis?
Patients who wish to reduce a localised fat bulge that has persisted despite diet and exercise may be
interested in cryolipolysis.
Who is not a candidate for cryolipolysis?
Patients with cold-related conditions, like cryoglobulinemia, cold urticaris and paroxysmal cold
hemoglobulinuria should not have cryolipolysis. Patients with loose skin or poor tone may not be suitable
candidates for the procedure.
Does cryolipolysis require anaesthesia?
This procedure is done without anaesthesia.
Cryolipolysis procedure
A consultation is required to discuss area /areas of concern. The TruCryo machine is then sprayed directly
across the area/s causing thermal shock cooling the treatment area locally. This is followed by lymphatic
massage the help flush away the broken-down fat cells and any associated toxins from the body. Treatment
time is around 20-45 minutes depending on number of areas treated.
What are the risks of cryolipolysis?
The complication rate is low and the satisfaction rate is high. There is a risk of surface irregularities and
asymmetry. Patients may not get the result they'd hoped for. Rarely, in less than 1 percent, patients may have
paradoxical fat hyperplasia, which is an unexpected increase in the number of fat cells. This is three times
more likely in men than in women and is seen more in those of Hispanic or Latino descent.
Recovering from cryolipolysis
There are no activity restrictions Following treatments.
What are the results of cryolipolysis?
Results can be seen immediately although the injured fat cells are gradually eliminated by the body as the cells
breakdown which can take up to 72 hours post treatment. Following a full course of treatment cells will
continue to breakdown up to 4 to 6 weeks post treatment. During that time the fatty bulge decreases in size,
with up to 20% fat reduction. Cryolipolysis is not an alternative to a Healthy diet and regular exercise
Proper post treatment care
There is no down time following treatment although it is normal for the treated area to be a little pink – this settles
within minutes. We advise you to drink plenty of water to enable the body to eliminate the crystallised fat cells.
